It's here again ...

Football season has arrived once again. Makes me feel like summer is coming to a close. We still have a month to go and now our evenings are spent at football. It started with a week of conditioning ... two hours of calisthenics, drills, and a whole lot of running.
But its been good. Last year Bub's conditioning week hit during a heat wave. A week of 110 degree weather! It was extreme for us parents to sit out in and watch, let alone for the hundreds of boys actually participating. And conditioning week is not a time to take it slow and easy. Those boys are giving 100% the entire time. It's not only expected, its demanded.
But this week has been in the 80's, lending to cool evenings, and a nice time to workout.

Bub loves it ... so that's what counts. And he loves to know that we are sitting on the sidelines, watching ... encouraging. He has a great coaching staff this year. One that seems to be aggressive in the sport but that also really has a heart for the boys. Their style is different than any other year Bub has played. They are teaching the boys retro-style football, old-school, if you will. It's an offense that was popular in the 1950's. No quarterbacks, no centers, no running backs ... but snappers, tailbacks and wingbacks. Even a flanker! Now I don't know a whole lot about football, but I do know know that this is a style that I have never seen before. But Bub thinks it's cool ... and as a matter of fact, I do too.

Bub knows a couple of other boys on the team but not many.
It's always interesting watching him in those kinds of situations. In a crowd where Bub knows everyone, he can be a goof ball, the funny guy, the center of attention. Everyone gathers around him. But when he doesn't know many people, he tends to stick to himself. The quiet sort. Watching him play football for the past couple of years I've noticed Bub is never the kid to be wild or loud. He's quiet, reserved, takes instruction, and plays his hardest.

Football, and sports in general, teach children so much. The physical activity is great, but the respect of the coach and others, the, team work and self discipline I believe are also great.

I love football season. Not only is it exciting to watch, it it is also the season. I simply love the fall ... the weather, the smells, the colors. I love my jeans and hoodies.

Not only has August brought us football, but quite a bit of work for me. I've had some family portraits and several baby and kiddo shoots. Those are always so fun for me. I love gathering props, finding locations and then just having fun with the kiddos. Capturing their personalities ... and they are all so different! But that's what makes it so awesome.
I also just finished shooting a fall and winter clothing line for a local company. It was an awesome shoot with great models. We shot at night in a studio and just had a blast. Now onto the editing phase, which will mean many late, late nights of work once the kiddos are asleep.

I have been praying for some change in my work. I love what I do but have felt the need to do something a bit different. Something fresh, new ... this came along ... prayers answered. God is good. Can't wait to see what's next!

It's a busy time. But good times ...
