Life's Little Moments ....

Although a storm is currently moving in, spring has sprung .... Birds are chirping once again, the tulips are in full bloom and the sounds of carefree children has filled the air. The days have been beautiful, the nights still cold. I love this time of year.
We have started the garden (with just a few things including garlic, onions, peas and spinach), although there's A LOT more work to be done. Actually, we have barely scratched the surface. Part of this past weekend was spent pulling weeds, raking leaves and digging in the dirt. There's something so peaceful and rewarding about just being outside, in nature, in the yard, working and planting .... knowing that there will be a harvest.

We've had to find a balance in our time as of late as some days seem so busy and filled with activity. Bub is at an age where he has found himself involved (by choice) in many activities. It's all good but at moments can be a bit much.

Yesterday for example, was one of those moments. He returned home from school knowing he had much to do. There was his weekly homework package, violin practice, guitar practice and an assignment to write a report on Harry Houdini, which was due today. To top it off, he had baseball practice! Bub was very overwhelmed. We stopped, talked and decided to not think about everything, but make a plan, pick a place to start and simply concentrate on that. One task at a time. Bub is very much like me ... when the tasks pile up, I almost become paralyzed because I don't know where to start.
Things went well at first .... Bub broke down what he needed to do, started in and accomplished quite a bit. But by nighttime the stress settled in when it was time to write his report. He's great once he starts but getting started is always the hard part!
He stayed up late and did his best.

Sometimes I forgot that he's only 10. I (along with his dad) try to push him a bit as we know what he is capable of.
But there are times when I push too hard and 9:00 last night was one of them. He was tired, he was near tears, he was done. So we put down the report, snuggled, prayed and he fell fast asleep.
But after a good night sleep, he got himself going this morning with a hot cup of tea and a great attitude. He sat at the counter and finished his report!

So balance .... yes, I want to teach my kiddos the value of hard work, a good work ethic, and giving all you've got. But on the other end of the spectrum I want them to have time to be ... to be kids.
For the most part I think we do okay with balance, but I guess we all have our moments!

So .... moments ....
A handful of years ago my husband was traveling and returned with a small bottle of Chanel #5 for me. Now, I am not a person to wear perfume on a daily basis but on special occasions I have used my Chanel sparingly. well, over the past week Pie has wanted to use it. (The other day I noticed Daddy dabbing a bit on her wrists!) So the other night when we were brushing our teeth, Pie was sitting on the counter and i asked her to hand me something out of the cabinet. As she did she bumped the perfume bottle. She tried to grab it but it fell and spilled all over her and the counter! We managed to save a bit of it .... But Pie, as well as the bathroom, smelled like Chanel #5 for days! Oops!!!!

Take hold of each moment .... live, laugh, love ....
Find balance ....
