It's still early in the morning and I've been up for a while now. Today is the first day of school. Very bittersweet.
We have said goodbye to summer, as fall is already in the air, and are about to start a new season. A new journey. Exciting, yes. Fresh, yes. A little sad, yes.
I simply cannot believe that my Bub is about to start the 5th grade. It didn't really hit until last night when we were sitting at the dinner table and he realized that this was it. Back to an early bedtime, the carefree days of summer have come to an end and school is about to start. He said "I just can't believe that my 100 days of summer are over. Feels like it just started." How much faster has the last 10 years flown by ... feels like just yesterday Bub was the newborn that I held so tightly in my arms. Now he is about to start his last year of elementary school. My emotions got the best of me ...
The Bible says there is a season for everything. This is Bub's season to grow, to shine, to be. I am excited for him, blessed to be part of the journey. Yet, my heart aches a little bit ....
Someone once told me that raising children was like flying a kite. You start out holding the string tight, with little slack. As time goes on you let out the string, a little bit at a time, allowing the kite to fly more freely. Until one day it soars.
Last night at bedtime we snuggled. He had a hard time falling asleep. Butterflies in his tummy. As I rubbed his back we talked about all the things we did over the summer. What a full fun summer it was. We spent time at the coast and the lake. We wake boarded, tubed (which I am still soar from!) and surfed. We went to the water slides and swam nearly every day. Pie learned to swim. We spent long afternoons fishing. There were many spend the nights (at our house) with friends and cousins, and late "scary" movie nights, and even one all-nighter! There was bike riding, quads (Pie got a small one for her birthday), and motorcycles. Bub just bought one with his own money .... but that's another story! And there was family time, quiet time and a whole lot of laughs ...
So ... onto fall. Onto the 5th grade. And kindergarten for Pie!

Football is now in full swing as well. I do enjoy that.

And a shot from our recent photo shoot. I took the kiddos to an old mill in town in the early evening. The light was awesome as the sun was just starting to set. They had fun being silly and we got some cool shots. More to come ...
