Keeping my eyes open ...

I can be such a complainer!
I know what I want to be ... graceful, calm, patient, loving. All the time. With my husband who works full time and is working through a MBA program. With my children. With my business. With my home. The list can go on and on. The good news is that at times I am. But others, I am 40 going on 4!
I am great at giving advice to friends or family who ask ... to my own children, in effort to guide them. But when it comes down to it, I don't always take my own advice.

Things aren't always perfect. We are not perfect. That's just life.
Financially things are tight. (The other day I realized I had $4 in my bank account and my "low fuel" was on. We made that a day at home). Yet, we never go without.

I am grateful for all I have. I am truly blessed to have such an amazing husband and sweet, good children. Friends, family ... this list too can go on.
But there are moments of complaining, perhaps not wanting more, just different. Perhaps having a different home, in a different area. I don't know. Maybe I have a tendency to suffer from "the grass is always greener" theory.

Today I stopped. I realized I am surrounded by beauty.

Small things ... giggles and laughter of the kiddos, dinner together, working through 4th grade math, stealing small moments with my husband.

Peace. We have peace available to us if we are willing to accept it.
Our home. It may not be perfect, but it is filled with peace ... and it's perfectly cozy and inviting for us. It's more then we truly need.

Then there's the simple fact that we have access to all those other "perfect" places.

Just down the road from home we can find ourselves in the woods, in nature, smelling the fresh pine trees and the crisp air. Hiking, exploring.

(Pie (as we call her) playing on a rope swing while staying in a treehouse last year.)

I love the coast. It's ever so calming to me. There's nothing like walking along the beach, sand in your toes, the ocean air. Brings such clarity. Well, about an hour drive and we are there.

(my sonny boy or Bub (as he is known as around here) taking in the view at the coast last summer.)

How I love the snow. I could spend my winter days at the mountain snowboarding. It's an activity we all enjoy. It's only about an hour from us as well. Not too shabby.

(there he is, coming down the mountain much faster then it looks!)

Then there's the lake. Such a fun place for the kiddos and mama's alike. Swimming, boating, fishing, relaxing ... it's all there. Again not too far from home.

Open the eyes of my heart Lord ....

There is such beauty around us ...
