What was to be a full day ... an early morning trip to the river with the kiddos and the dogs, lunch with three friends and their children, a handful of errands, time editing my last photo shoot ... has turned itself upside down and inside out, or so it seems.
My sweet baby girl awoke with a fever this morning. A fever, chills and a headache.
So there was no river adventure, lunch, errands ran, or photo work done. It will all have to wait for another day.
Instead, we have all had a quiet day ... with lots of extra love and snuggles.
Midday, I found myelf getting a bit overwhelmed. My mind wondered to all the things I was going to accomplish today.
Stop.
I always have to stop and remind myself that my plans are not always His plans, despite how good I think my plans are. His plans are perfect. And it's these moments, days, times that simply work patience in me.
Patience has never truly been my strong point. Then I find myself overwhelmed. And then with each new twist of the day, I can let that overwhelming feeling take over.
So I truly must stop.
I spent hours quietly playing, reading, comforting.
But while the kiddos relaxed this afternoon I decided to get some household chores taken care of. Simple ... or so I thought.
After attempting to unclog the bathroom sick, I left the hot water run through the drain. I set my timer for 30 minutes ( later realized I misread the directions! oops!!!) and went back to tend to the kiddos. However, when my timer went off, I returned to the bathroom only to find the sink was not unclogged and the water had poured over the counter and was flooding the floor.
Patience .... as the floor in now sparkling clean.
I made banana blueberry muffins for my girlie girl (it was the only thing that sounded good to her). The blueberries were from our own garden and the smell of the warm muffins took over the house. Yummy was her most desciptive word for them. However, there was a definite problem with our oven, which will need looking at, and with any sort of luck, it will not need to be replaced.
Patience .... as my children we blessed to eat the muffins they desired.
The air went out in the car.
Patience .... at least the sweltering temperatures have dropped.
Instead of being overwhelmed on this day, I stopped. Laughter bubbled up as I the thought "what else?" One of those days.
But I know I was right where I was supposed to be ... comforting my girlie as she needed ... stroking her hair, rubbing her back, holding her hand.
She is now resting ever so sweetly, a cool wind has taken over the evening, a mug of tea ... truly a day I couldn't have planned.
