Where has summer gone? Hard to believe that school is starting next week and we will be back in the thick of things. Yet summer brought us so many things ... adventures, treats, new experiences. And while part of me wishes it could simply go on, there is a part of me that looks forward to change. There is a fresh new feeling on the horizon and it will be good ...
We spent a long weekend at the coast. Just the four of us. Roaming the beach. Camp fires. Climbing rocks. Looking at tide pools. Playing board games. Bbqing. Unplugged. Enjoying one another.
Perfect ... and I am thankful.
The coastline in our little part of the world may not be the warmest but it is beautiful. It was an awesome and needed get-a-way. The kiddos love just hanging out there.
There is such a beauty in just being. The roar of the ocean crashing on the rocks, the breeze, the smell. There is such a peace. One of our favorite moments was when a little seagull (whom Bub and Pie named Abe) landed nearby us, and slowly walked right over and sat near our beach fire. We held still and watched. Abe moved in a little closer and closed his eyes. We sat in silence. Before long Abe came even closer and we were feeding Abe crackers from our hands. After about 45 minutes this little seagull
turned, walked away, opened his wings and flew. It was an amazing moment ...
The beauty that surrounds us. The beauty that is so often missed from not taking the time to slow down and be quiet. We are always so hurried ... with work, kids, responsibility, obligations, life ... that it is so easy to miss simple moments that are magical. Moments that are a gift.
Jesus said to be still.
I am not often still. I desire to be still. There is such power and peace in those moments ...
It's early. Still dark. The house is quiet. Pie is sleeping. Bub is already at football practice. And my sweet husband is off teaching a Bible study. Work and chores await. The day will be filled with
activity and a little bit of craziness ... that is our life. But I wouldn't change it. I am blessed.
Here's to the last holiday weekend of the summer. Enjoy ...
