February 24, 2012

Storms brewing ... the brilliant February sun has turned to dark clouds and strong winds. Kids have gone from barefoot and bike riding to more quiet indoor activities. Pie is content, as always, doing artwork. Bub has two friends over and they are just hanging out. I can hear them talking and laughing. They have all grown up together ... from hot wheels, Lego's and super hero footie jammies to sports, air soft wars and yes, brief mention of girls!
But I love these boys. Bub has a nice group of boys to call friends. They tend to hangout here. They're loud, rambunctious and at times over the top. They head to the fridge or pantry to find snacks. But I love that they feel comfortable here. Wednesday's are "late start" school days for the boys. And most parents have to work by 8 ... so ... the crew heads to our house! We make breakfast, tea, mochas. It's chaotic, sometimes they help, sometimes I feel like a short-order cook (which I would never survive as an occupation). Plus, tween age boys can eat ... and eat a lot! But it's fun and time I would NEVER change!

Bub doing what he does best ... reading! He is such an old soul. For him, there is nothing better then his robe, hot mug of tea and a good book ...

I was in Pie's first grade class and a thought came over me. Nothing revolutionary, nothing new. But made me look and think about children, life a little differently. Watching 30 or so 6-7 year olds. ... they are all unique. They all learn differently. All come from different places. Some are like sponges, soaking up and learning, enjoying that process. Striving to do their best. Some sit and stare off, daydreaming, not caring about reading, writing, or math.

The teacher had them sit in a circle and talk about resolving problems. Each child got the chance to speak (if they chose to). She passed a stuffed animal to the first girl in the circle which meant she had the floor to speak. Respect and attention should be hers. The teacher also used the word 'honor' ... that all classmates should honor whomever was speaking. I like that.
They all had different ideas about resolving problems. Their thoughts, their words, it was awesome to listen to them talk, almost thinking out loud. What innocence. It's beautiful.

Pie and her own sense of style and uniqueness :) She would rather do artwork than anything else in the world. Arts, crafts, sewing, music, imagination. That's my girl ...

But aren't we all so different? Unique? God made each of us so differently. He gave us our own hearts, minds and personalities. Something that should be honored ....

The thoughts that fill my mind ... living life, pouring myself into moments, creating memories ...
Peace ...
