What do you do in October when you live in the Pacific Northwest and it's pouring down rain outside? Go to the pumpkin patch of course! Or, at least that's what we did.
Call it crazy, but if we were venturing to the pumpkin patch this year there really wasn't a choice. So we bundled up and braved it!

Cold, wet, windy weather. A corn maze that was fun, but confusing. Bigger than I thought. The kiddos thought I would be fun to run up ahead of me and grandma. It was for a bit. But then we lost one another. I knew they were there and I knew they were together, but I couldn't find them. And they couldn't find me. At first my thoughts were laid back about it, thinking "I bet they are at the end of the maze where they pumpkin patch begins." Great thought, until we (myself along with my mom) couldn't find our way out. After an hour (yes, 1 whole hour!) we found our way out, but no children on the other side. Worry started to settle in as I went back thought he maze and grandma stayed at the exit. As I wound my way back through, I prayed as I did not like not seeing them or knowing where they were. Worry, panic. Rain. And a lot of it! In my search and my roaming, I prayed, I lost my shoes (literally) in at least a foot of mud that I sank into, I laughed.
In the end ... the kiddos had found the exit, went back to look for me, walked to little store at the pumpkin patch to let them know their mom was lost. They hitched a ride on the hay wagon back to the patch where grandma was. I finally arrived. And along the way several people stopped to tell me how responsible the children were, how well trained they were and how Bub took care of Pie.

We are loving the fall ... the colors, the chilly mornings and cold nights. Snuggling. The smells of soup simmering on the stove and bread baking in the oven. Hot tea and freshly baked cookies or muffins in the afternoon. My summer diet of nearly all raw foods sure does shift as the seasons change!

Even football in the fall. Bub's team played a hard game this weekend in the pouring down rain. Their white uniforms, brown. But they loved it. They played hard. They won. Now another week of practice to get ready for playoffs.

As we were leaving home this morning a rainbow filled the sky. Vibrant colors, a reflection in the clouds. Almost a double rainbow. The camera wasn't with us at the moment but truly wouldn't have done it justice. An image for the memory. The kiddos and I decided that it was God's gift to us today. and the day would be beautiful, even magical!

Off for my magical day .... enjoy ....
