Fall is here ... I am looking out of my kitchen window at vibrant shades of reds and yellows. This is definitely my favorite time of year. The change of season, the colors, the crisp air, the fresh smells from the rain. Its the time of year my family loves to snuggle in ... fall is just a cozy feeling.
Fall also represents the kickoff of the holiday season. The kiddos excited for Halloween, picking costumes (which every day my girl changes her mind!) Candy, pumpkins, friends .... I love watching them and the excitement it brings. Or perhaps I am just a kid at heart. I do so love the anticipation of the holidays ... the preparation, the decoration, the warm smells of baking, the attitudes of the heart that seem to simply swell during this time of year.
I wish October could last a bit longer.
I love the watching the kiddos jump in the fresh pile of raked leaves.
... jumping in puddles.
... playing football in the rain.
I love drinking tea.
... making hearty meals.
... baking.
... cuddling up on the couch with the kiddos, a good book and our favorite red blanket.
There's a desire to do for others ... perhaps put our our needs on hold, even if for a moment.
I like seeing that. I like being a part of that. I'm not always good at it but I am aware of the need. The desire.
Honestly, I can get so caught up in the "I've got to do this or that." Between running a photography business from home and just running a home, things can get hectic. I get overwhelmed with the vacuuming that needs to done or the mountain of laundry or whatever the case may be.
But when I stop, and look at my kiddos, I realize they do not care if I haven't vacuumed in four days. They care about time. My time. My attention. They care about playing a board game, going on a bike ride, singing silly songs, or reading ... just as long as its together.
There is a time to be constructive, to work.
And I believe there is a time to be.
